Denpasar is the capital city of Bali Province
since 1960 up to now, the former capital of Badung Empire which controlled the
southern island of Bali since the late 18th century until conquered by the
Dutch in 1906. Denpasar is the location for the Office of the Governor of Bali
and other important government offices, including the post office,
international banks, airlines and hospitals.
Denpasar word means 'in the north market'.
Denpasar is a city with rapid growth, especially since the growth of the
tourism industry in 1960. Denpasar city has a population of 1,000,000 people.
Jalan Gajah Mada is the city's main shopping center, and at the end of this
road there is a statue called Statue Catur Muka. Catur Muka statue has four
faces looking towards the four winds, the statue was made in 1972 to remember
the Badung War On 20 September 1906 which is known as Puputan Badung.

Around the Badung Square and Statue Puputan you
also get the story of the history of Bali. To the north there is Puputan Badung
building called 'Jaya Sabha', which is the official office of the Governor to
entertain important guests dine while enjoying the performances of Balinese
culture. In the east Puputan Badung have built a temple in 1968 called 'Pura
Jagatnatha', which is a place to worship (God) Ida Sang Hyang Widhi Wasa.
Hindus in Denpasar come to this temple to pray, especially on full moon nights.
